I promise, if you have not compared your car insurance rates in the last 2 years.....are you paying more than you should!
I have written tons of newsletter articles on the subject of car insurance and why rates can actually go down over time....except YOUR current premium stays the same. Shop around and see for yourself.

So what really is "cheap car insurance" and how "cheap" should you go? My family has been in the auto body business since 1937. If you take your car to our body shop for repairs, the first question we ask is "who is your car insurance carrier".

Some car insurance companies are easy to deal with, making our job as the repair facility easier and your repair time faster and less hassle for you and me. I can not mention names....but I can mention a few sites who ARE easy to deal with, and they REALLY do have the cheapest car insurance I have found.

I would highly suggest you get "rental car coverage".
This is usually something you have to ask for, but the small increase
in yearly premium (probably $20) is more than worth it in the long run. If your vehicle is being repaired, the rental fees will be covered by your policy, without this coverage you could end up paying the rental car expense yourself.

Ask your insurance agent about the limits of rental coverage.
In most cases you are allowed $25 per day for a maximum of 25 days.
If you have ever been involved in a major accident you are probably aware that 25 days can go by very quickly. Waiting on an insurance adjuster to visit and approve your claim, parts to be ordered or special ordered, the actual repair time, weekends and holidays and just human nature are all important factors to consider........
when you wonder why it can take months to repair a vehicle these days.

Make sure you inform the repair shop about your rental limit and hold them accountable for all rental car expenses not covered under your policy.
Tips for the cheapest car insurance rates:

1. Raise your deductible amount to the highest level you feel comfortable with. You only pay the deductible if your insurance company pays the claim. So, you need to have a claim and it must be paid by your car insurance company. If you have been a claim free driver the last few years, you would save a lot by raising your deductible amount.

2. Clean up your credit score -
most car insurance companies now check your credit report and score to determine your ability to pay thus higher premiums if your score is low.

3. Clean up your driving history with defensive driving if possible

4. Combine your other insurance together with the same company. Home and car insurance combined togther with the same company could save you a lot of money on both.
5. Ask for discounts! You never know until you ask, credit unions, military, good students, AARP and other organizations like that usually offer car insurance discounts

6. Buy online, many carriers will offer a small discount if you purchase your policy online.
